液压油滤芯在生产厂家的产品样本或标牌上标注的是名义精度，而非绝对过滤精度，只有经过实验测试的β值才能表示滤芯的过滤能力。液压油滤芯还要求满足压力损失的要求，以保证流量与滤芯的使用寿命的最优化。
在选用滤芯时可选用原装件，也可选用第二品牌。须注意的是：要对所选的滤芯进行验收，检验它是否符合其应具有的性能指标。

评定液压油滤芯的最主要标准时按照iso4527-1981e（多次通过实验）测定的β值，即让混入标准实验粉末的油多次循环通过滤油器，其进油口和出油口两侧的粒子数之比。
2. 流量特性
滤芯通过油液的流量与压力降是流量特性的重要参数，按iso3968-91标准进行流量特性实验，以绘制流量—压力降特性曲线图，在额定供油压力下，总压降（过滤壳体压降与滤芯之和）一般应在0.2mpa以下。
3. 滤芯强度
应按照iso2941-83标准进行破裂—抗冲击实验，滤芯损坏时急剧下降的压力差应大于规定值。
4.流动疲劳特性
应按照iso3724—90标准进行10万次循环的疲劳实验。
5. 对液压油适应性的实验
应按照iso2943—83标准进行压力流承受力的实验，以验证滤材对液压油的相容性。
