十八世纪欧洲，当时人们通信的信封密封方法采用的是“蜡封”，即将燃烧的蜡烛滴下的蜡液滴在信封弥封处，乘蜡未凝结前用私人蜡章盖上标记，类似盖邮戳。不少人干脆将随身的戒指刻成私人印章，因此，戒指图案就象普通印章那样,正好相衬。

.png火漆通常的形式为火漆棒（传统火漆），但有些是带芯的火漆，以及火漆颗粒。需要使用时，火漆棒切一小块置于小汤匙，加热融化后倒入在需要的信封口上，即可盖章。

seal stamp sealing wax sticks paperorenvelope cooking oil flame or butane lighter
1prepare the piece of paper or envelopeyouare about to seal by making sure the area is clean.
2.pngchoose an appropriate seal; brass isgoodbecause it do not require oiling. there are hundreds of sealdesignson the market, including letters of the alphabet tosignifyafamilyname, as well asallkinds of illustrations from dragonflies to sunflowers. it isalsopossible to order monogrammed seals. choose the color wax youwouldlike to use. crimson is the most original and authentic color,butthere are dozens of colors available.
3if the seal is not brass, oil it by dabbingatiny bit ofcookingoil onto itwitha paper towel.
4light the wick of your wax stick withacandle flame or lighter so that the wax starts to heat upanddrip.
5drip the molten wax onto the area you wishtoseal. drip enough wax so that it creates a pool the size ofanickel.
6set the wax stick aside on a piece oftinfoil.
7press the seal into the wax verticallyandapply pressure evenly so that the impression is made initsentirety.
8.pnglift off the seal and let the waxfinishcooling.
9protect the seal if not hand deliveringthedocument or envelope. the wax can be brittle and break duringitsjourney. place it inside a padded envelope or hand deliver forbestresults.
